Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over the student's homework. She already finished it, and so we went over her answers. We then reviewed rounding rules, and she practiced on rounding to the nearest tens place and the nearest hundreds place. She is beginning to get the hang of what it means to round. We also reviewed counting money and adding up to get the total amount. She shared that for completing her homework so far this year, she gets a pass on a homework assignment one night. YEAH! Hard work pays off! Great job!!"
"Tonight the first student corrected her math problems that she missed on her quiz. It was mostly on expanded notation and word form. She also reviewed her spelling words and wrote sentences with her spelling words. The second student read for 20 minutes, reviewed his spelling words, and did some math, matching the value to the pictorial model."
"Tonight we covered subtraction, commutative property, and multiplication. The student needed help with subtraction, and after we went over a few worksheets, she caught the hang of it."
"Tonight we reviewed subtraction that involved multiple "borrows" and long division. We ended the session with some multiplication war! By the next session, I would like to continue to practice long division and perhaps go over some simple 3D shapes."
"Tonight we went over adding and subtracting decimals, multiplying large numbers and estimating the answers, and very basic algebra (solving for x). The student knew how to do almost everything, his issue is that he goes quickly and makes mistakes in his head. I've been trying to work with him on writing things down and showing his work, which he gets a little frustrated with at time because it's much easier for him to do it in his head. We finished chapter 3 in his book and did a few sections of chapter 4. I left him with about 10 pages of homework this week because he quickly went through the amount of work I gave him last week."
"Tonight we worked on greater than and less than with numbers up to four digits. This is what the student mentioned she is currently working on in school. She did not have a problem with this at all! She flew through it. I also had her work on putting multiple numbers in the correct order with given commands of which to start with the greater or lesser. Again, she did a great job. We then reviewed some double digit subtraction. She did well with this but needed a bit of reminding to regroup when necessary. We finished up with some tic-tac-toe with multiplication facts to review those as well. The student did well and we will continue to work on memorizing the facts. I say memorizing for quick rote responses, and because she knows the skills and tricks to figure out the problems when she is unsure. We plan to meet next week. I will touch base with her mom this week."
