Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over graphing sine, cosine, tangent and cotangent. She breezed through the sine and cosine graphs but stumbled at first with the tangent and cotangent graphs. Once she understood the equations, she worked through the tangent and cotangent very quickly. After the graphing, we looked at verifying identities and analyzing the half-angle identity. She used the half angle identities very well. She finished most of the problems with no problems. Next session, we will review word problems in all the sections we've reviewed so far."
"Today we went over the chapter that the student has been going through this semester. We reviewed the homework due for tomorrow and looked at the past quizzes and homework from this chapter. Finally, we looked at the review for the chapter. The work was mainly on inequalities and their graphs, as well as other functions."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming midterm. In previous sessions we had worked on the review sheets his teacher provided. For this session we reviewed the chapter reviews in the text book. The material that we covered in this session requires a lot of steps. The student was able to solve the problems."
"The student continued working through her packet. She finished the problems on factors and I was very impressed with her performance! Last week we saw two methods for finding factors (listing factors or using a factor tree) and today she was given the choice of which method she preferred to use. She went with the tree method and really had fun with it. I love her creativity and how she can bring that into her math work!! Once completing factor work, we began looking at fractions. It began with recognizing equivalent fractions and we will pick up with this again next session. She did well with the fractions."
"I assessed the student's understanding of place value. Student also assessed in the areas of addition and subtraction with and without pictorial models. Worked with dot point strategy for adding numbers. Assessed understanding of skip counting, student proficient in counting by 10s, needs work on factor 2-12, excluding 10's. Student does a great job at talking herself through the problems. Student will be taught CUBES strategy, and problems solving strategies, for state assessment success."
"The student and I went over her math summer packet as well as the beginning sections of chapter 1. Some concepts we went over include absolute value, perimeter, area, order of operations, integers, decimals, and percentages. She is off to a great start after today's session and after her math camp last week. I advised her to look over examples and to continue to practice, especially the two-step math problems involving variables."
