Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the unit that the student had been working on this month. We practiced using problems from the textbook that had not been assigned for homework and completed the recap questions at the end of the unit on rates, proportions, and ratios."
"The student and I spent the majority of the session working through assignment 3. We created graphs (scatterplots) and tables (correlation, simple linear regression, multiple regression) and discussed interpreting the statistics given by the output. He needs some review on statistical significance, p-values, and correlation coefficients. As we move forward with regression analyses and mean comparison/ANOVA, it will be increasingly important that he is comfortable with the basic concepts. Before our next session, he will attempt to complete as much of assignment 3 as possible, so that we can spend that session reviewing and refining it."
"I scheduled our first online session and met with the student at 7:00 pm. We went over multiple problems involving plotting and computing the period of trigonometric functions. I explained to her how to remember trigonometric cos (Theta) and sin (Theta) functions using a unit circle. These are x and y coordinates of a point formed by the line, drawn from the origin with an angle Theta from the horizontal, and the unit circle."
"Good session. We talked mostly about Algebra in this one. Discussed function notation, function domains and ranges, tests for whether a relation is a function, and the role of graphing. We discussed a few problems in geometry. He is sailing through the Algebra topics rather nicely and at a good pace."
"The student and I reviewed her current math assignment, which involved simplifying and solving square roots. She had some trouble at first and had forgotten some of the rules, but once we went back over factoring, she got the hang of it and did great."
"The student and I went over material from Chapter 11. She has a test that covers both chapters 10 and 11 this next week. We reviewed two questions from each section to make sure she understood the methods. This material included integration and matrix work."
"We started reviewing for the student's midterm and covered series convergence test, Taylor polynomial error approximations and improper integrals. We will finish her review next time."
"I met the student at the library. We covered L'Hop at length before we moved on to some word problems that used critical points provided by the first derivative of a function. Next Wednesday I am hoping we'll be able to review her test prep."
"Reviewed all the curve sketching topics we talked about last session. We went through her practice skills test to understand more intuition on how derivatives affect the way a graph is sketched. We also touched upon optimization."
"We went over some calculus problems that the student had, covering area and linear prometrics, in addition to covering derivatives and introducing infinite series and sequences, which she is starting next week."
"We reviewed for her exam over converging and diverging series. We went through how to use the different tests, and how to simplify fractions with factorials."
"We spent the entire time learning and practicing Riemann sums (left, right, and midpoint) and antiderivatives. I left her with examples and my old notes on Riemann sums."
