"For session 5/30 Reviewed the student's homework essay per rubric. The essay was a large improvement over her last effort. Read and critiqued sample, graded SAT essays in the prep guide. Reviewed grammatical points for possessives used with gerunds and the use of "neither" and "either" combinations based on incorrect items the student had in our last session. Discussed tactics for writing to the SAT prompts given the time limits: allocating the times to components of the writing process (planning/rough outlining, thesis, drafting intro and body, review, drafting conclusion, final review, making corrections/insertions, proofreading with a concentration on clarity, conciseness, and consistency (grammatical and composition logic). As before, the student was focused and hardworking. We scheduled our next session for 6/11."

He took geometry over the summer several years ago, so our task is mainly just to refresh his memory about the different formulas and applications. With word problems, the student sometimes has difficulty picking out the relevant pieces of information. We talked about moving through these problems one sentence at a time, and starting with what he knows. "

"Today the student and I revisited problems that focused on basic algebra (we had been dealing exclusively with geometry problems). She will need to do a little more review of basic algebra concepts before the exam. I am confident, though, that we should be able to review everything she will need in our last few sessions. In this last week before the test, it will be especially important that the student gets in as much practice as possible. She seems to be obtaining a strong grasp of the concepts that I explain to her. Her positive attitude and eagerness are doing her well! Keep up the good work!"

Then we moved on to reading comprehension and scrambled paragraphs and she worked more independently and with great accuracy. She's starting to show a lot of improvement here. "

"We went over a whole lot of the Verbal and Writing sections because the student is very confident in his abilities on the math section. We did one timed section and then a lot of practice problems. The student has improved immensely in our few short sessions in the way he thinks about these problems. He absolutely has the ability to do exceedingly well in all sections of the test and seemed to really benefit from a tweak to his thinking when it came to some of the verbal and writing sections."
