Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Read the story they were working on in class and answered the questions orally in the back. Reviewed vocabulary for this lesson."
"Today I had the student work on 4th grade reading comprehension and taught him about sensory language and figurative language styles. Then we went over some algebra problems and fractions."
"We began our session reading one of the easy reader series that the student likes to read (which he read extremely fast and smoothly) and then began to read a SpongeBob chapter book. He did very well with the reading. There are times where he just breezes through paragraphs at a time. He has a good flow. I am forcing him to sound out difficult words by himself. He then began to flow smoothly through some compound words. Overall he is doing really well. We were able to read several chapters of the SpongeBob book and he seemed very interested in the story. I am encouraging him to check out more books so we have more consistency in our sessions."
"Today, we covered some vowel phonics and a few reading techniques. When I told the student that I am like any other teacher, he seemed surprised, but he also began to focus more on the tasks that I gave him. He has homework for tomorrow, and I look forward to seeing how he fares with a very light assignment."
"Today, we covered the goals of our sessions. Primarily, the student wants to be able to communicate effectively using the American dialect. We pinpointed a few of the sounds that are different in her dialect that are used in the United States, focusing on the "r" sound in the initial position for this session. She was left with some practice exercises to work on for next week. Additionally, for writing practice, she will write a small paragraph describing her personal challenges with language."
"Today, we covered the letters and sounds F/P/R/B/M/N. We used alphabet mats and had the student sort the pictures according to their initial sounds. We started by sorting two different letters and sounds at a time, then did it a second time and sorted all letters and sounds at once. He did very well. We then did some free reading, with me reading the a book of his choice aloud to him. We will work with different letters and sounds tomorrow."
