Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the geometric mean of a right triangle. I will continue to send her problems on the geometric mean."
"The student and I reviewed homework covering areas of polygons, circles, areas of shaded regions, lateral area and lateral height."
"The student had a test the next day so we did all the review questions again, and I made sure she had all the equations memorized that she needs for the test."
"We continued a review of constructions and worked on a homework packet. We did half of it together, and we left the other half of the packet for her to do on her own. We switched over to work more on preparing for the algebra assessment exam. A few questions we looked at in more detail, taking the time to really understand how we shift graphs of functions by adding or subtracting values from inside or outside the parentheses of the f(x) function to shift left, right, up, or down."
"The student and I worked together today going over geometrical proofs from his book. We went over proofs using properties like SSS, SAS, ASA, midpoint, median, substitution, addition, subtraction, reflexive, and so on. We plan to meet again Tuesday afternoon."
"The student and I worked on problems for the state assessment she will take in January. Some of the problems we came across were graphing related - plotting lines, seeing if points are on a parabola, and looking at graphs of inequalities. She struggles with some of the questions because she doesn't really know what to do. I think this is a consequence of the way she is taught math in school, by which I mean students are encouraged to memorize formulas and not think about the problems and think differently. I tried to incorporate problem solving strategies to help her improve her math skills."
