"The student learned about heat energy in class and had two handouts with practice problems. We picked the most advanced ones and set up a methodology for solving these type of heat exchange problems. Then we applied the concepts and formulas to solve these problems. He has a good understanding of theory as well as application of the heat energy formula."
"The student is taking his human development final on Tuesday, so we video chatted to review some material that he still had questions about. We went over a few major theories and concepts, and I provided him with some examples to help him remember. We also discussed how he should best prepare for the test because it is an oral exam. The professor provided discussion questions after each lecture, so the student will go over those questions to make sure that he could answer them in case those are the questions chosen for the exam."
"In our introductory session the student and I had a lot of fun completing an "edible cell." First we looked at pictures of animal and plant cells (both microscopic images and artistic renderings) and he pointed out to me some things that he noticed about them - both similarities and differences. We then discussed all the major organelles of both types of cells in detail. He demonstrated an excellent ability to retain the information and relate it to other content he had previously encountered in his education in his own words. I was very impressed at the quantity and quality of his knowledge base. Ultimately, we "built" our own cells from several sweet items such as cookies, candies, and licorice. Each item corresponded to a different cellular component. He was able to determine which components belonged to both plant and animal cells, as well as which organelles were exclusive to one type of cell. We finished by eating our handiwork!"
