Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed topics for her quiz next week. I made up practice problems so that she could gain confidence in the material. She did great! I covered a few topics that she will be seeing in class so she gets a grasp on them beforehand."
"We reviewed Work and Power, and then moved on to Forces and Vector Addition. The student responds well to a combination of visual demonstration and equation manipulation. She is quick to pick up the concepts once her questions have been answered. I taught her how to add vectors and forces, and we went through her notes to answer any conceptual questions she had."
"We specifically covered cell origins and cells divisions. I asked that we look at the bullet points at the end of those chapters, which we reviewed using his teachers PowerPoint slides. I think the student is struggling with time management only because he was caught off guard by the amount of work required for this particular class. He is making the correct changes to make an A or a B in this class. He has a great attitude toward this material, he is easily motivated, and participated in my questions. I included strategies such as writing notes in his own words, mnemonics, as well as to create examples of some details that were given in the study material. I asked him to go over the notes he created daily for 5-10 minutes, and then I would quiz him over them next week. I think this was a great first session."
"We specifically covered isotopes and what they mean, and spent the majority of the time discussing how to calculate relative mass numbers of different elements. The student seemed to be having a difficult time understanding what isotopes meant, and how isotopes were related to the overall mass number on the periodic table. The student was very positive towards the material covered, and asked plenty of questions. I left the student with some homework that was already assigned to him, which he will work on, and then we will meet soon and use that material to study and review for his upcoming exam. The student told me he received 5/5 on a recent quiz that covered material we previously covered, so he seemed to notice an improvement in his performance. The student seems to be improving steadily, and that's always a good thing. He works very hard."
"We specifically covered the properties of matter. The student needed help with what exactly he was being asked, and how specific he needed to be. He had a good attitude."
"We specifically worked on 2D motion. He and I worked several problems dealing with free fall and initial velocities at angles. We discussed working on reading the problem well so we are answering the question being asked and not the one we think should be asked. We did not add any extra practice, because he still had plenty to work though now he feels confident he will do well. The session length may have been a little long for him. He felt burnt out toward the end of our time together."
