Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's retake test will be next week, so we went over the new material that she will have a quiz on this week. We continued covering the periodic table and introduced electron configurations and s, p, d, and f blocks. She better understood how to write electron configuration in both expanded and abbreviated form after our session, and should be well prepared for her quiz."
"This session, the student worked on his chemistry homework for the first half of the session and then we went back to his history. After completing his homework in chemistry and math, we went back to building study materials to help him prepare for upcoming exams. This included more work on his color coded note card system. Additionally, I evaluated and critiqued his in class note-taking skills and gave him some guidelines for improving note taking. We decided that he should build a template to use when he takes notes to help him improve the organization of information in class and to help him integrate his understanding of homework and reading assignments as he is taking notes."
"The student worked on a chapter review and a practice chapter test in preparation for her upcoming exam on electronegativity, ionic, covalent, polar covalent bonds, tetrahedral, trigonal, planar, bend shapes of molecules, change of state, heat of fusion, heat of vaporization, energy required to melt/freeze a certain mass of water."
"The student felt that she did pretty well on her exam yesterday, but could have used some more time to memorize some of the nomenclature. In our session today, she remembered a lot of the material for her comprehensive final, so we went over the questions that she did not understand. I felt that she knew the equations and when to use them pretty well, but was having a little more trouble remembering all of the naming rules. We will continue to work on this. Memorizing all of that material is difficult to do in such a fast class, but I think she is understanding the concepts, which is the most important."
"The student finished up her review packet. The flowchart has helped greatly with pH conversions, and she demonstrated more fluency with concentration. Stoichiometric conversions were not a problem, provided she keeps track of her work. She said that she feels ready for her final!"
"The student first reviewed the electron configuration using the complete and abbreviated forms. Next she practiced the nomenclature of ionic compounds."
