Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered pedigrees analysis: X linked recessives and dominants, Y linked traits, autosomal recessives and dominants. We also covered the probability calculations for independent events, mutually exclusive events, and the binomial expansion for unordered events."
"During our first session together, the student and I worked on stoichiometry concepts, through going over a packet that she got from class. At the end of the session, she had a clear understanding of this material, and felt ready for her make-up exam on Monday. To follow-up with the session, I sent her some practice problems and videos to review the concepts."
"We covered sectional views - full section, half section, broken and offset sections. The student was able to solve the section problems and seemed to understand the concept of cutting planes. We also covered dimensioning, general rules for dimensions. And finally, we covered the different types of fits - interference, clearance and transition."
"We reviewed stress calculations for a continuous beam with an internal hinge, calculations for moment of inertia, first moment of area, and vertical and horizontal shear stress. Tension and compression bending stresses."
"We reviewed the student's first exam, which she got a C on. It was a combination of multiple-choice, short answer, with some written portions and drawing diagrams. The concepts were atomic radii (and volume), quantum numbers (n, l, and m) and electron configurations, also the relative jump in sizes of atoms from one period to the next. I've suggested she put asterisks next to particular problems that need clarification or re-study. Our next appointment will cover writing up formulas of reactions from A's laboratory notes."
"We reviewed the student's lecture notes on kinetics and colligative properties. She has strong math skills, which is very refreshing, and is able to visualize problems mathematically and thus understand how they work."
