Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we focused on the quantitative logic section of the test, the only one we had yet to look at in any capacity. The student performed well at translating word and spatial problems into math equations, and problems only occurred with occasional calculation mistakes and some confusion on formulas such as area and perimeter. Only minimal review should be necessary before the posttest."
"Today we started preparing for a quiz on Friday over Ch 17 (chemical equilibrium) by going through example problems from the power point slides. She is definitely getting more comfortable with applying the chapter concepts. "Plug-and-chug" type problems are a breeze now. She takes a bit to remember the proper approach when the concentration change to get from initial to equilibrium isn't given, but usually comes up with the solution alone. One topic that was a bit of a challenge was remembering which direction the reaction will shift based on the relationship of the reaction quotient to the equilibrium constant. This was marked for her to go over a few more times on her own."
"Completed compiling and editing Middle East guide, reviewed all citations, cleaned up created citations, and updated in-text citation to be compliant with MLA format. Completed the History Final assessment, edited all in-text citations, created and formatted end note citations compliant with MLA format. Reviewed progress on English final assessment. Rewrote and edited characterization paragraph. Rewrote and edited graphic novel and historical memoir portion of assessment. Outlined, discussed, researched, wrote, and edited 4 tactics the Iranian government uses for population control, and descriptions of what additional regimes used the same tactics."
"We worked on her final exam. She surprised me and did most everything herself. Her confidence was high and she was able to do math problems that she struggled with in prior sessions. She passed her class and was very grateful."
"The student and I covered various math topics. We started the session by reviewing her answers to the diagnostic test she completed for homework. We walked through her answers, and examined each of the questions. We started working with geometry concepts, and reviewed the basic concepts of polygons and triangles."
"The student is finishing her plant unit in biology, and her six-week exam is next Thursday. Today I flipped through her notebook and verbally quizzed her on the material. She did very well, especially considering I went all the way back to material she had not reviewed in a few weeks. I told her I would make a quiz for next Wednesday so we could properly gauge how prepared she is for her exam."
"The practice sections went better than the student's first test. I'm thinking that things will go even better by next week, especially after she memorizes even more vocab words and does a few more practice problems. Today we focused on the reading/writing sections, and that went pretty well. Definitely a noticeable improvement in confidence level/performance in just a few weeks."
"We went over his homework in the reading and verbal sections, corrected it, talked about test taking strategies, and learned new vocab words. His homework is to do more reading and vocab practice and to try to use the new strategies we talked about. Great job today!"
"We went through her review homework, focusing on regression and function notation. Then we went over some problems she had on recent homeworks involving more complicated trig problems. She needs to focus on finding a way to form a right triangle, and being careful about which angle she uses."
"Student has shown great progress in her ability to problem-solve using new skills and techniques. She is fully able to divide and multiply numbers containing decimal points, to obtain percentages from varied total sums, and to convert simpler fractions-decimals-percentages. We also worked on basic geometry and she is familiar with the concepts of parallel, perpendicular, diameter, radius, and area. She's able to use a protractor to draw precise angles and is able to determine degrees of angles and lengths of sides using partial information and knowledge of the properties of geometric shapes."
"We found out about when the student has which final. We spent today talking about how much he will need to study this weekend, and then going over the Spanish review sheet."
"The student had to prepare for a vocabulary quiz, which he will take tomorrow. We reviewed central tendency (mean, median, mode and range) because this was lesson he missed in school. He and I collected data on his tomato science experiment, and made a table draft. We edited a social studies letter assignment, and made a plan for the last two weeks of the semester. His goal is to complete 6 IRA assignments, a museum visit summary, and a video summary this week so that we can edit them together."
