Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"To take a break from grammar/verbs (which we have been focusing on for a few weeks), the student learned about common Japanese dishes today. A lot of the dishes that I introduced were ones that he would most likely encounter if he visits Japan. I utilized images, videos, and websites during the session. At the end of the session, I shared with him an online recipe site written in English by a Japanese author."
"Today was a relaxed session. The student learned all the Hiragana (great job!) and we looked at several manga pages from Doraemon and Yotsubato and read through them. His homework is to watch a reading of Yotsubato, practice reading on his own, and to write down 10-15 words and translate them into English. He is also going to work on Genki workbook homework. Great job today!"
"Today we focused on learning the remaining Hiragana and learning about sound changes in Japanese. After teaching the student the Hiragana and sound changes, we reviewed what he learned by reading and writing. He's made extreme progress with Japanese, as far as pronunciation and retaining information goes. He still mixed up a few Hiragana when reading and writing. He was a little confused by the new material, but was eager to learn more about Japanese language and Japanese culture. We will continue to work on this next session."
"Today the student and I continued with 'die Zahlen', the numbers, to review for her test. We did an overall review of the numbers from 1 to 100 where I had her both write the numbers and say them out loud. Then we moved on to conjugating 'haben', or 'to have'. We discussed the regular endings for verbs as well as the endings for 'haben', an irregular verb."
"We started to work with the reflexive form. We saw more family relationship vocabulary. We practiced conversation talking about a family: the names, the ages, the profession, place where they live, and the language they speak."
"We're into Chapter 5 now, so we are halfway through the material we need to cover. The student is making good progress! He did some studying this week, which really helped. We started talking about weather today and read our first longer texts, which he was able to understand quite well. I've given him lots more vocabulary to practice. In preparation for his meeting tomorrow with the teacher, he's going to work on all the vocabulary we've done so far, and I gave him some more exercises to practice too."
