Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued to work on writing ratios using objects and pictures. She also began to work on ratios with word problems. Next week, she will begin sixth grade level material on ratios."
"Today's session started with a review of multiplication tables, and practicing simple division problems. I gave them a few sheets of practice sets to do and had them start at the same time. I noticed that the first student went through the problems a little more quickly than the second, and both of them hardly had any errors on multiplication and division. I then did single digit and double digit multiplication examples with them and gave them practice problems to complete. They both excelled with the single digits. The double digits were a little trickier. Their main mistake was how to align the numbers once you had to multiply the second digit through and then add. Considering this concept was new to the one student, he did very well and his steps were correct. I told them to review their notes and we would be continuing with single and double digit multiplication in the next session."
"Student 1: The student completed Division/Multiplication fraction word problems. Resumed work on the Understanding Decimals chapter. The student's in class assignments assessed his progress in the course. I left the student with Division/Multiplication decimal word problems for homework. Student 2: We continued scaffolding multiplication facts: 6, 5, & 4; and, 2-digit x q2-digit multiplication practice. He worked with an interactive multiplication program and die well: 18/25. The student is progressing as expected. He is getting more confident with the process of 2-digit x 2-digit multiplication. For homework, I assigned the student Facts: 5 & 6; and missing factors worksheets."
"Today, we reviewed the student's homework, which was working with pictographs. She really understood it well. We then moved on to her extension for this week, which was a sort of logic problem involving trading pencils. It was a really good exercise for her to focus and make sure that she was following every single direction, which she did. We also went through her 12s flashcards."
"It was great to meet this student today. He's an awesome kid and I'm excited to work with him. He needed help with division, so we practiced conceptualizing it through grouping, describing long division problems with that grouping language. I felt like he was getting the hang of it and I asked his parents to practice doing that with him until our next session."
"We covered geometry. The student did especially well with angles and sides. She continued to present a positive attitude. I gave her a few strategies to utilize. She made an A on her last quiz."
