Sammamish, WA Reading tutoring
The student and I brainstormed subject ideas for the essays. We then worked together to draft outlines for each of the essays. Before our next meeting on Thursday, she will write a draft of each essay. If they are finished before our meeting, I will take a look before our meeting. Either way, we will work to edit the essays during our next session.

The student brought an updated draft of her common app essay. Together we did a second review of her common app essay and brainstormed several individual responses to the short response section of the application. She is on a good point to continue on her own. The majority of her college essays are complete, she understands the remaining steps to submit the applications of her chosen 12 colleges, and quite honestly, she has already completed most of the application process.

Today was our first meeting, and it was lovely getting to know the student. We walked through her list of schools so I could get a sense of what sort of environment she is looking to study in, and then we tackled the essay prompts, eliminating all but two of them. We brainstormed answers to both, and I am sending those notes to her so she can build an outline for our next meeting. Prior to the next meeting she is also going to open an application with each college she is sure she wants to apply to, so we can pull out any smaller essay questions she has to answer. And together we are going to research some of the schools she's not yet sure on so that we can narrow things down even further.

The student and I continued to work on his homework. We spent the first hour of the session on how he was going to compose his second and third paragraphs to fully answer the prompt. We created an outline based on our discussion and filled it in with detail and quotes from him to make the writing process as simple as possible for him later on. We used the last half hour to revise his first paragraph. I left him with instructions to finish a complete draft so we can begin total content revision in the next session.
