Session Summaries by German Tutors

Sammamish, WA German tutoring
The student did very well with the review of the alphabet. There are a few letters (h, j, x, y, z) that are causing a little trouble, but that is to be expected with a new language. Otherwise, I am very pleased with her progress in regards to the alphabet. Today we introduced numbers. We worked on 1-15. She picked up 1-10 very easily. Her pronunciation is very good. 11-15 seemed to be a little harder for her to remember. However, she did great repeating after me. She is keen to learn what she can, and I am very happy with how the session flowed. She is a very bright young girl, and she takes direction very well. Next week, she wanted to learn colors. In particular, she wants to know how to say "teal" since it is her favorite color.

The student requested to practice numbers. We started reviewing them and pronunciation, and then we did several practices. We practiced recognizing numbers when I said the jersey number of a soccer player "Who is number 17?" We practiced saying them all 1-30 quickly (and timed!), and we played a game called "Cuanto cuesta?" (how much does it cost) with clothes, food, and then travel. We took turns in that game with her recognizing, and then also saying the numbers. She showed a lot of improvement by the end. We spent the last 15 minutes on body parts for her quiz tomorrow and played "head, shoulders, knees and toes" and learned another song to help her remember. She works hard and has a great attitude!

The student still needs to work on his organization and focus in Spanish. He doesn't seem to take it as seriously as he should, and I think that is partly reflected in his grade. We will continue to work on comprehension, vocab, and catching up on missing assignments.

This was my 3rd session with the student. This evening was spent learning to conjugate verbs in the present tense and going over his profile in Spanish as a way of introducing himself to others. The next two sessions will be spent in expanding his vocabulary before teaching him any new verb tenses.

This was the student's first tutoring session for his Spanish 101 course. We opened the session by discussing his course goals of catching up on class topics missed, improving his experience writing in Spanish, and preparing for his "Examen Grande" on Monday. Next, we reviewed his test prep sheet, exploring each topic by number. Such topics included subject-adjective agreement, titles and the definite article, dates, and subject pronouns. For following the session, he agreed to review "-ar" verbs and list of adjectives. I agreed to develop a list of additional list of resources as per the Examen Grande Prep Sheet's structure.

This week we worked on to Math with the student in preparation for her exam and got some breakthrough in understanding concepts and processes. I also worked with her in Spanish understanding and reading aloud to help with pronunciation and understanding of the context of words and phrases. More conjugation work to continue with the past tense of all regular verbs helped with remembering differences between verb tenses over the break.
