Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on Probability and Permutations/Combinations. We will continue to work with concepts of permutations/combinations."
"Today I met with the student to work on calculus. Her class is working on the shell method for finding volumes and surface areas of revolution. We were able to solidify her understanding of the method and got through two days' worth of homework."
"The student knows her stuff and she'll do fine on her final. We reviewed the bulk of the material, which will only help her score. She had a note sheet that touched on all of the major topics. We went through the end-of-chapter reviews, picking a few problems from each of the topics on her note sheet. She was fine with all of the simple stuff like derivatives and simple integrals. We reviewed some of the more complicated integrations (inverse trig functions and integration by parts), and then focused mostly on the word problems like related rates, max/min, and volumes of revolution. She understood how to set up each of the problems by the end, and she's always been really good with the actual computation involved in solving them. She should do well on her final."
"The student had a few questions on his homework that we went over. We discussed the washer, disk, and shell methods of finding volume. He seemed well prepared for the session and it went very well. We also touched on chemistry towards the end, but decided to do chem on Wednesday. Over all he seems to be doing pretty well."
"The student and I covered graphing rational functions by finding x and y intercepts and using 1st and 2nd derivatives to find critical points, local extrema, intervals where function is increasing and decreasing, and points of inflection."
"We covered limits and limit laws. The student is probably struggling the most with the definition of a derivative in terms of limits. We'll work on that in our next session. She was diligent and dedicated as always. I told her to focus on completing as many problems as possible."
