"The topics covered were the following: solving one-step equations and determining if the given data represents an exponential or linear function. The student had some understanding but needed additional help. He did not know how to solve one-step equations. After showing him, he was left with additional practice problems to complete."
"This afternoon, the student and I worked on finding the x- and y-intercepts of linear equations, plus graphing equations in slope-intercept form and standard form. We also reviewed multiplying and dividing exponents, scientific notation in the context of science and history, and operations with integers. Great session!"
"This meeting turned into a "get back in the swing of things" session. We spent time reviewing concepts from before the holiday week before spending the last 15 minutes previewing this week's in-school concept of perimeter."
"This past Sunday, the student and I went over directional derivatives, changing the order of integration, and any additional questions she had concerning her midterm. Since she's not allowed to bring a formula sheet, the trouble lies with memorization of minutely changing formulas. Overall, she is really eager to learn the concepts of the course, and she even began asking me to explain surface integrals and flux; both of these are concepts her teacher hasn't covered yet. I didn't leave her with extra practice, but I did let her borrow my formula sheet that contained everything my teacher went over. I have no concerns, and I am glad that she knows most of her mistakes were little errors."
"This session began the first of the review sessions before the student's final state exam. I asked her to inquire whether she'll be taking the geometry or analytical geometry exam. The session itself covered a review of geometry topics through an online quiz provided by her teacher. Otherwise, I showed her a website with the information for both exams, which we'll cover more in future sessions."
"This session consisted mostly of practicing problems involving area and volume maximization. We used what we know about derivatives and what they tell us about functions at critical points to optimize areas and volumes."
