Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over two review exams in preparation for her finals. The topics included regression, ANOVA, t-test, z-scores, and p-values. I noticed a lot of improvement when I explained things a slightly different and easier way to her. For the most part she was having a problem recognizing t-critical values and p values. I left her with some practice to do tonight before we meet tomorrow. I wanted her to do the problems without looking at the solutions to get a handle on learning them, instead of falling back on the solution sheet. I also recommended that she write out the full solution to each problem, so that she has a reference for her test. Since she is allowed to use notes, I wanted her to have all of her regression problems in one place, and all the t-test problems in one place, etc."
"We finished up on multiple regression and ANOVA. The student only needed reminders on the formulas for finding certain degrees of freedom, but otherwise had little trouble with the material."
"For this session, we covered topics in hypothesis testing for both population and sample. We worked and discussed each question from a quiz on the subject, making sure each was as clear as possible before moving on. I left the student with a reading assignment from a book of mine to help clarify the process for determining "beta" in the probability for committing type II errors."
"I prepared the student for his Algebra 2 Chapter 7 on logarithms. We covered concepts ranging from properties of logarithms, to basic graphs of logarithms, to compound interest, and finally solving equations involving logarithms. He felt confident after the session. I told him to practice more to really feel confident about his test."
"We worked on various word problems tonight. The student would draw pictures to represent the word problems and then solve them. She did many of them successfully, and the ones that were trickier, I walked her through it and we did it together. We finished our session with a series of greater and lesser than problems to review, and she got almost all of them correct. She is really improving and her confidence seems much higher!"
"She completed problems from different homework assignments. The student is doing great and only needs a little bit of help on each topic."
