"The student worked on the sentence completion portion of the critical reading section. For the most part, he already has a great foundation to work with concerning how to navigate these types of questions, successfully. I pointed out the concept of signal punctuation and words in order for him to learn how to understand the direction of the questions. We also spent time discussing tone of words and how to figure out answer choices by looking for synonyms with the same root. Overall, he seemed to understand the lesson well. His limits will deal with vocabulary (at a certain point the words have no outside context; the word bank will help him build up his knowledge of obscure words the test might throw at him) and processing. In regards to the latter issue, he sometimes will gravitate toward an incorrect answer because he gets attached to one part of the answer that does fit the question (with the second answer being incorrect). Getting him to set up and answer holistically, even when one of the words is unknown, is key for getting him to think through the questions."
"We did a Math warm up and went over Reading (Generalizations/Assumptions/Claims; Analogies; Fiction; Paired Passages). I assigned the student the review words to study."
"The student is progressing really well. We worked through a variety of sections of both the Critical Reading and the Writing tests."
