Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During the break, the student completed her practice exam. She is still having some difficulty in math, but her reading showed improvement over her diagnostic. Next week is nearly our final session before she takes the exam, so I plan to finish going over the exam with her again to help her understand it as best as possible."
"Discussed using other written organization techniques in conjunction with new digital scheduling as backup plan, followed by successful review and completion of Algebra II homework and short conversational Spanish practice."
"The student worked on going from words giving values of x to set notation to interval notation. Also, he learned what intersection and union mean in the notation. Also, he worked on solving linear systems with 3 unknowns."
"The student and I reviewed the subsections that he took for this week's prep. Based on his scores, we will need to focus further on Math and English. For next week, I assigned him to purchase a new ACT test preparation book. He'll take a practice test from the book and we'll go over any missed answers, and assess our next direction."
"The student and I discussed the graphs of sine and cosine in detail. We talked about the original graphs and the changes that occur when you alter the amplitude, period and translate it horizontally and vertically. Then we covered how those changes affect the functional equation."
"The student and I reviewed her algebra and geometry. Once again, she has made good progress in completing assignments and covering relevant material. She will continue to work on geometry and begin data analysis/statistics before our next meeting."
"Today, the student and I worked on his math homework and on a letter. He had a bit of trouble thinking of things to write, but he got going after a few suggestions. We then worked on his composer project. He is still reluctant to research and wants to work on the computer part of the project, but I insisted that we find more facts, which he agreed to. It make take time, but we'll get the project done! The other student immediately revealed that she'd read to chapter 7 in our book and showed me the questions she made up! I was really impressed and proud of her. She said that she didn't have any homework but that she needed to read her library books. We spent a lot of time on comprehension since there were many new words such as gondola, piazza, canal, etc. Hopefully, she'll do well on her AR quiz tomorrow."
"Began lesson with similar questions from 1st session. The student completed all four questions correctly. Continued working on January 2013 regents. Worked on algebra skills from the review. Assigned 3 questions from here."
"During this session, the student and I studied for her Spanish final. We namely focused on the most recent topics of hers, which included distinguishing using subjunctive and indicative tenses. These were examined mostly with two groups of conjunctive clauses: ones that will always trigger the use of subjunctive, others that could be either or (are situational). We then also reviewed the use of the conditional and future tenses for making conjectures. Finally, I gave the student a set of verb conjugations to practice over multiple tenses: present, preterite, imperfect, past perfect, subjunctive, future, and conditional. I hope that Ashley was able to go in to her final today more prepared and confident."
"Went through a lot of AP Physics questions focusing on centripetal force, angular momentum, and angular energy. The student demonstrates a great understanding of the problems, and we're working on how to set them up properly."
"We reviewed one more time the conjugation if verbs in presente, passé compose and imparfait, This time we focused on the male and female and plural aspects of verbs ending with er, such as aller. We analyzed what situations asked for double e, or ees endings. We also practiced negations such as je n'ai jamais , and we analyzed how these negations are conjugated."
"We went over the problems in the student's review packet with an special focus on chapter 8, which was all problems involving right triangles. We reviewed the relevant formulas and got enough practice for the student to be confident with the fundamental tools on the chapter 8 test he will take on Thursday. We also had some time to go over the theorems and procedures on the review for chapter 3 on polynomials."
