Session Summaries by Algebra Tutors

Round Rock, TX Algebra tutoring
We went through some concepts in polynomials such as the definition, degree and names of polynomials. We also went through solving the roots of a polynomial using both long and synthetic division; understanding the multiplicity of roots, and importantly retrieving the original polynomial from both its complex and real roots. The student showed a fairly good understanding of this material after we went through some problems, and I think he got most of the material. I left him some of the problems, which he might go through at a later time before the next session. In retrospect, it was a productive session.

We did the meet and greet and both students are fantastic. Student 1 caught me up to speed on his current status in his algebra class, and expressed that he would like help in biology too. Student 2 expressed that Student 1 also needs help withe general planning and scheduling for his entire workload. I gave student 1 homework to complete before our meeting on Tuesday night (chapter 4 test) and prepped him on how to perform the questions. I committed to build a schedule for prepping for the final exam in 12 weeks.

Another good session with the student today. I prepared additional materials for him including the more complex multi-variable algebra questions and exponent rules, which we worked through. I also took the time to begin explaining how to graph basic line segments on a coordinate plane (y=mx+b). I left him with additional problems that we'll review on Monday during our next session.

We covered three sections of a chapter on linear functions that the student will be doing in class this week. First was Point Slope form, then Standard form, and finally parallel and perpendicular lines. I did a number of examples of each kind of problem and then gave him a similar one for each type.
