Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over the student's work from math during the week, mainly word problems. I had him work on some single and double digit division. Then I had a worksheet that asked him to identify words with similar sounds in the initial, medial, and final positions. I also had him work on some math word problems, helping him identify the keywords and using logic to figure out which method to use. The last thing I had him do for me was dictation of 5 sentences, to work on memory, spelling, and penmanship."
"We reviewed the student's math homework involving fraction equivalence and ordering and simplify fractions. Next was reading language arts, and he completed a worksheet that required him to write the cause and effect for sentences."
"The student worked on long division with a place value chart using place value disks. She did very well with this. She also had to show her work using the algorithm. Her teacher is using her last writing piece to make copies and show the class. We also did some editing of her written summary for spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation."
"Student #1, student #2 and I met today. Student #2 and I worked primarily on math and she able to get through the majority of her assignment on graphing linear equations and solving systems of equations by substitution. Student #1 completed some language arts assignments, and she worked through some math assignments as well. She is also working on solving systems of linear equations by substitution. The girls both have a science quiz coming up. I told them that if they would like, I could come the next day to help them finish some of the work and prepare for their quiz."
"Today, the student and I studied mathematics followed by biology. We reviewed her quiz, and worked problems involving order of operations, distributive property, combining like terms, linear equations (Slope, y intercept, general form) and other concepts. She did very well with math. We finished with a review of the immune system and vocabulary. Overall, she did very well. The next tutoring session is scheduled for again for next Thursday, 5:30-7PM."
"The student spent the session working on another set of school entrance essays. We discussed the questions that the application posed, specifically one that asked what he would want to learn about if he were in charge of making up all his own classes for high school. We brainstormed about the kinds of things that he would want to learn and how, taking into account his interests, but also the idea that there are "requirements" for his learning to be a productive worker in society. The student then made an outline of the three paragraph essay he was going to write, and then put it into prose form."
