Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was my first lesson with the student so we spent some time talking about what things she has the most difficulty with and what topics she has had trouble with. She currently is working on finding the perimeter of geometric shapes and had a worksheet to complete. We reviewed the problems that she had on the worksheet and I noticed that when the information is given in a straightforward way (for example side lengths are given), she is able to use the equations to find area. However, it is more challenging for her if you have to figure out the side length, which usually involves using the information in the figure to draw a geometry shape that is more common. We worked on a few problems like this to help. We will continue to cover this area next session."
"I worked with the student on a number of geometry challenge problems that she was struggling with over the weekend."
"The student and I worked on his online classes. We reviewed his homework, which covered the volumetric areas of different shapes and triangles. It also involved different transgressions along a coordinate plane."
"In our first meeting, we just looked at congruent triangles and CPCTC. I clarified some of the logic behind using the congruence theorems and explained how to complete a proof with CPCTC. The student seemed pretty confused by the subject at first, but she got the hang of it and was able to successfully complete 1 problem herself."
"We reviewed the student's quiz. She earned a 83%, and will be taking a retake this week with a goal of earning a 95% or higher. The questions she got incorrect were on the topics of rotations and reflections, specifically across a y=x function. We tackled rotations 1st. I taught her a quick trick for rotations that involved rotating her paper for a conceptual understanding, then she completed 3 practice problems using that method. We then tackled reflections, where I emphasized the concept of the reflection being equidistant from the "mirror" or equation stated in the problem; she then completed 3 practice problems using her new found understanding of reflections. Lastly, we went over what it means to "justify" her understanding through writing, and we practiced a scenario that involved her doing so."
"The student did well at determining a strategy before starting the proof. She needs to remember segment addition postulates when solving segment proofs. She needs to challenge herself to think about problems that have not been covered in class. We will continue to cover these next session."
