Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session focused on algebra, with a touch of biology. For algebra, we reviewed systems of equations, and both the substitution and elimination methods. In biology, we discussed and took notes over the differences between DNA and RNA. From there, I assigned specific flashcard concepts to be completed by the next session."
"We worked through the first student's homework on inequalities and worked through numerous examples from a couple of worksheets. My time with the second student was spent on the same kind of work. She and I worked through numerous examples of solving onevariable inequalities, expressing them on number lines, and translating inequality word problems into equations and solving. Both students seemed to be very present and were very productive."
"The student and I did the extra credit assignment. We solved systems of equations using graphing and algebra. We used the elimination and substitution methods. We finished by solving quadratics by factoring and using the quad eq. I think he has made tremendous progress and will do fine on his final."
"The student and I studied together for an hour and a half. We reviewed for his upcoming algebra final. The material was over functions, we paid specific attention on how to graph and write functions. I then saw the second student for half an hour. We worked on decimals and number lines, the focus being on how to tell which numbers are bigger."
"The student and I mostly worked for his test on Wednesday, which involved sequences, arithmetic and geometric sequences, and mathematical induction. He has some recollection of the concepts when we started but did not really grasp the ideologies. So we mainly worked on his study guide, using that as a framework of the topics we needed to cover. From there, we discussed each topic, the approach to solving them and then did additional problems for practice. We finished the session discussing a little Chemistry, which was mainly a discussion of recent concepts."
"The student and I finished her homework about central means of tendency, histograms, frequency table, variance and standard deviation. We didn't do the Gulliver application. We are going to do it next time we meet since her teacher gave her much less homework for next time."
"The student and I began this session by discussing the details of the test he had taken on Friday. Overall, he felt that he did well on the test. Since we last met, his class has begun a new chapter in class dealing with exponents. For this session, we dealt with rational exponents, translating between radical and exponential forms and using them to solve equations. This was only our first session discussing the topic, however, and he had already demonstrated understanding."
"We covered linear equations specifically, slope and finding the equation of a line given two points. We also graphed linear equations. I believe that if he goes over his work after each problem he will do very well."
"In this section the student and I covered simplifying expressions through the rules of exponents. I left the student to review the pretest and to fill his note card for the exam."
"Since this was our first session, I was largely trying to get a sense of where the student is at. We started by looking at what she is currently doing in class, which is largely statistics. We worked through reading the different types of graphs, since that seemed to be the main focus. Next session, we need to go back to some algebra basics and work on those first."
"The student received her actual test back this week, so we spent the beginning of the session going over questions. She did great on math! On top of that, she got all the word problems correct too!
She is currently working on exponential growth and decay, so we went over her homework for this evening, as well as problems she had questions about from her weekend assignment. She quickly understood the growth problems that were straight forward. We will continue to go over those again the next time we meet."

"The student's teacher has given the class a review packet to start to prepare for the final exam. So we did a couple of problems working on geometric rates of increase and decrease, solving systems of equations by substitution or elimination, graphing linear equalities and inequalities, and graphing some exponential functions. Basically the sheet he has covers all the material from this semester. He has some of this down very well but there are a few things he needs more work on."
