Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session today, the student and I reviewed for his upcoming test in College Algebra. We reviewed properties of exponents, properties of radicals, and solving quadratic equations. We simplified many radical expressions by using exponents and the properties of exponents."
"During this lesson, we reviewed for the student's biology test on DNA and RNA, and her algebra test. To review for her biology test, we worked on a printout review provided by me, covering the topics on the test. She did very well with this review. She remembered a lot from the last time we met and studied together. We then did a practice quiz online provided by her teacher, and a review sheet provided by her teacher. This only took about half an hour. She finished all of these with very little help, and felt confident about the material. We then spent the next half hour reviewing for her algebra test. We reviewed the end behavior of polynomials and the rules of exponents. We then did extra practice out of her test book."
"During this session, I reviewed the student's math homework. He had to solve expressions by substituting the numbers giving for the variable(s) in the problem. He did a very good job with his homework. He made only one computational error when adding a number with a decimal to a number without a decimal. I reminded him to line up the decimals before he added, and he corrected his answer. Once he completed his homework, I had him complete some addition and subtraction problems with decimals to make sure that he was lining up the numbers properly, and he correctly answered the practice problems. Instead of moving on to our usual grammar review, he informed me that he had a social studies test on Friday, so I reviewed the practice problems with him and quizzed him afterward."
"During this session, I worked with the student on techniques for identifying the key characteristics of the graphs of rational equations. The characteristics included zeroes, holes (removable discontinuities), and horizontal and vertical asymptotes. We also covered identifying the key characteristics of radical equations such as the vertex, range, and domain. This work served as an excellent review of concepts that were covered in the past several weeks, such as factoring polynomials and simplifying radical expressions. I believe her confidence is continuing to increase in her ability to do the work."
"During this session, the boys and I went over some math problems, which were their homework problems. These problems consisted of factoring, graphing, and imaginary numbers. The brothers were definitely on top of their game, as they both knew their stuff and needed little help from me. I am completely comfortable with their abilities."
"During this session, the concept of converting decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals, percents to decimals, and decimals to percents was covered. The student was efficient in his work."
