Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the student's geography project. He was assigned the South Sudan, and he was responsible for creating an economic system within the country. The assignment also required the creation of a school system and the development of industry within the country. We researched the natural resources that exist in the South Sudan to determine the industries he should include. We also brainstormed ways he could generate revenue to finance the Department of Education."
"In today's session, we discussed the movie the student watched in class on the hotel Rwanda. During this discussion, I tried to link the film we watched on the DRC to the fleeing refugees from Rwanda. After discussing the film and related ideas and events ,we practiced note taking skills while watching clips on population theories (Malthus), and on Egyptian history and geography."
"For this session, we continued to create concise, clear study notes for the second half of chapter 9. Since this chapter is rich in very technical terms, we found it necessary to reread each paragraph in order to fully grasp the concepts. The student showed an increased ability to rephrase what he's reading & can put more information in his own words. His attitude was positive even though the reading material was much more demanding than previous chapters. I encouraged the student to continue to look for key terms/concepts that he though were important. For extra practice, I left him the last two sections of the chapter. After this session, he felt more in command of the key concepts & ideas."
