Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we reviewed a number of discrete probability distributions to help prepare the student for her quiz tomorrow. We covered binomial, multinomial, and hypergeometric. I offered suggestions of how to identify what is the correct probability distribution and the correct symbols etc. She got the homework exercises correct. She will e-mail me prior to her exam next week for other sessions. She is such a pleasure to work with."
"Today we covered sampling distributions, how for an estimate the standard deviation depends on the sample size n, so we call it a standard error. We used standard errors to compute confidence intervals, and we used confidence intervals to find necessary sample sizes n."
"Today we covered z-scores, and correlation. We also covered scatterplots. The student was struggling most with understanding what the z-scores mean (what percentage falls below that score), but he seemed to grasp it well by the end of the session! He received a 90% on his most recent test."
"Today we did a review of normal distribution tables along with several examples from student's textbook. We also reviewed definitions of means and standard deviations and how to compute the same from tabulated data. Lastly, we did a review of basic steps to compute percentages and proportions from a table."
"Today we discussed probability/frequency, normal distribution, measures of central tendency, and spread/variance/standard deviation. The student struggled with summation equations at first but understood it after we talked through the intuition behind certain equations. We drew graphs and visualized data! It was a good session."
"Today we mainly worked on the student's homework. This consisted mostly of permutations and combinations. We reviewed conditional probabilities as well as the complement rule and how to apply it to problems. We will definitely go over permutations and combinations again during our next session."
