Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1 and I reviewed for his exam, and he was very confident on all the material. Student 2 and I reviewed proofs. She is still having difficulty with this topic. Her main issue is organizing her thoughts and predicting which parts of the diagram she must prove congruent for the proof. We will be meeting this Sunday to review for her test, and I have instructed her to work on all of the proofs by herself first. We will continue to go over them Sunday."
"Student 1 and I went over assigned work from last session. We reviewed domain, range, and intercepts. We began work on functions to help him stay on track. He did well going over this challenging new material and was eager to go even further ahead!
Student 2 and I went over her school homework together. We worked on different methods of converting word problems to equations. We also solved each equation, which was great practice for her! Finally, we practiced many addition/subtraction problems with negative numbers. I have noticed that, oftentimes, the only thing slowing her down in solving equations is when there are negative numbers. When practicing today, she showed me she really has mastered the rules for adding/subtracting negatives! We just need to keep working on applying that knowledge to larger numbers in the context of solving equations."

"Student 1 and I worked on addition and subtraction word problems. She does well with most of them but gets confused using her strategies when big numbers are involved with subtraction. I showed her a new strategy that I think will be less confusing with large numbers and is very similar to the way she likes to think about subtraction problems already. Student 2 and I worked on her online lessons that are due soon. Overall, she is doing very well in school."
"Student 1 and I worked on multiplication sentences and showing all the work/steps when completing math word problems. We worked on sentence structure and rereading each sentence for comprehension and to edit. In all, he completed 12 sentences in response to his nightly reading and spelling assignments. Student 2 worked on multiplying and simplifying fractions. We did a few extra practice problems. She also completed her nightly spelling assignment without issue."
"Student 1 and I worked on systems of equations. She did not understand how to solve using substitution, but by the end of the session, she was solving the problems on her own. Her confidence is increasing, but we still have to work on the gradual release of control. I've seen great improvement! Student 2 started a new unit yesterday. Her homework was slightly confusing in wording, but we were able to figure out most of it. The most important part for mastery of this content is carefully reading the problems. We will continue to work on this."
"Student 1 and I worked on test prep for an upcoming state assessment. He has a solid understanding of ageappropriate material. I am challenging him with higher grade level problems. Student 2 is lacking confidence in her fundamental skills such as multiplication facts. I am working on building that confidence up with her. She seems to need to feel comfortable with the teacher in order to work to her true ability. We worked on finding the GCF of numbers and recognizing what numbers are prime or composite."
