Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student got a 75% on his Lab quiz. This is a big improvement! We continued to work on stoichiometry and glas law problems. He is still having trouble wanting to put forth the effort to complete his homework, and he can't think of a suitable prize for homework completion. He has a test over unit 8 Thursday. We will be meeting Wednesday night to review his packet and clarify any questions he might have. "
"Administered vocabulary and roots exam to student. Chose new vocabulary and roots for the next exam. Continued review of new mathematics concepts, revisiting the concepts involving negative numbers. Continued to study the concept of multiplying and dividing negative numbers. Introduced concept of order of operations to student. "
"The student and I worked on geometry for the entire session. We reviewed angle bisectors and midpoints and progressed to an introduction to polygons (types/names, perimeter, congruent and similar shapes). She shows an avid interest in this math level and catches on quickly."
"The student and I reviewed the answers she missed on her most recent SAT practice test. Her scores are definitely improving, especially in math, so we continued to reinforce some of the concepts we've already been practicing. In math, we reviewed some of the more complicated concepts such as functions. In reading, we talked through a particularly tricky passage about abstract art and how to parse the author's point of view. She continues to do well on the writing portion so we reviewed some of the more nitpicky grammar rules."
"The student and I went over her worksheet on reflexive verbs. We then went over a couple of worksheets in her book on that unit. I wrote down examples of reflexive verbs for her so that she would get a better understanding. I asked her about the topics that she is still struggling with and advised that I will bring worksheets to our next session so that we can go over those in further detail because sometimes the book does not give many examples."
"The student and I covered an initial overview of the exam and discussed strategy and structure of the essay. We then turned to data sufficiency. He is already familiar with the question type, so we did a quick review of the strategy and some practice problems. We also discussed yes/no data sufficiency. Next session we will round this out with a discussion of pieces of the puzzle before we move on."
