Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Enjoyed discussing the colors of the flag and making the tricorn hat with the student. Geography bingo for the state capitals was great. The student did not ask to take a break and I was surprised and happy about that."
"I introduced myself to the student. The student's mother provided us with SAT practice books, which I used along with the SAT practice test in my email to introduce the student to the format of the test. I then taught him a sentence completion strategy, which he took notes on. We practiced sentence completion problems for an hour. After that, I introduced him to the math section and the free response format in the answer sheet. I taught him math strategy and then we practiced math problems."
"The student and I spent this session discussing math concepts not previously addressed. We worked to ensure that even the most advanced concepts were covered so that when we return to math our work will be focused on review and test-taking strategies."
"Student and instructor practiced past (preterito) forms of various verbs, including "poder," "querer," etc., by reviewing exercises in chapter two of the textbook ("Ven conmigo"). Also reviewed: body parts, and use of the verb "doler" ("e.g. Me duele la espalda). Tutor assigned student homework of completing exercises in chapter two, and learning vocabulary at the end of the chapter, as well as chapter two in the conversation manual ("Me Chiflas!"). Finally, instructor and student practiced use of verbs "moverse," "adelantarse" and "retroceder" by playing chess. Specific chess vocabulary (casilla, escaque, alfil, rey, dama, caballo, castillo) also received attention."
"The student finished Chapter 17 notes. We went over the two labs that she had left. We also discussed how to do her last assignment in her college 101 class. Currently, she has all her labs started/completed. She also has everything completed for her college 101 except the final paper which is due in May. She is about 3 chapters ahead in her nutrition class as well."
"The student and I went over details of the school's scheduling system. She wants to develop an iPhone app to help students with their schedules. We covered a mockup of features of the app, what would be hard-coded in the app as setup by an administrator and what would be user entered (their personal classes for the A - F days). We covered the programming language that would be used (Swift), the hardware that would be used, the timeline, and where development stood (just getting started)."
