Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"While being a bright and confident student overall, the student has concerns with his essay writing in general and particularly as it relates to his upcoming entry exam. We reviewed a proposal letter he is currently working on for boarding school, which was generally strong for his academic level but was a bit lacking in information. I suggested that his essay writing seems like it could benefit from a much more extensive use of examples, which he agreed could be a weak point. He says he understands how to properly structure an essay, but may be having trouble writing in enough details to make it an appropriate length. We addressed, in depth, several helpful approaches to brainstorming using sample writing prompts in his workbook. Toward the end of the lesson we were able to make some headway in regards to his inhibitions about expressing his own creativity through writing."
"During today's session, we went over the practice section tests the student took during the past two sessions. Overall, she is doing better with her time management."
"During our first session, we went over the general overview and formatting of The Upper Level ISEE test. I believe the student has gotten the general gist of how this test works and the timing on each section. Using the Diagnostic Results on the Quantitative Reasoning sections, we focused on comparison problems and solving problems that use variables as our first topic. I think there are many concepts that need to be worked on in regards to algebra, but I am sure she will succeed with practice. We also went over some vocabulary words, and I provided her with online and paper resources that she can use to create personal flashcards for memorization. She did a great job on using context clues and narrowing down on answer choices to arrive at the correct answer. She will complete a mini diagnostic test from a workbook source, which we will go over next session, as well as some online learning sets for extra practice. It was a great first session."
