"Student 1 - completed Black Beauty, comprehension and book Student 2 - vocabulary spelling, sentence dictation, building, and reading"
"The student and I worked on a few reading comprehension passages. Then, we worked on 15 new spelling words and creating sentences for those words. Lastly, we practiced summarizing."
"After introducing ourselves, we went over strategies to predict what readings will say. Student #1 then selected a book on dinosaurs which we co-read."
"Tonight we reviewed the student's assigned spelling words. I also introduced the concepts of syllables, and we reviewed vowels and identified vowels in each syllable of words. Finally, we played a game to review sight words. He was very engaged and asked for help with his spelling words. He had a good attitude and demonstrated a good understanding of syllables. I am pleased with his improved attention and willingness to work."
"We began by going over the personal essay the student and I have been working on. We focused on getting more detail into his writing, as well as how to write good transitions. After, we moved onto grammar, going over a review of "sentence improvement" questions from the SAT. He had some difficulty we these, so we will focus more fully on them next week. We finished by going over a few options for his summer reading, as well as reading and discussing Chapter 3 of "The Great Gatsby.""
"We began by sorting words by vowel sounds again, and he did much better now that he'd encountered this set of words twice before. He remembered how to pronounce a lot of the trickier words, though there was still the occasional problem with paired vowels. After that, we read the book on flying reptiles more, and he was able to read more smoothly than he had the previous session. He was able to pronounce the majority of the words on the first try, and put in a lot of effort."
