Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I worked with the three students. The focus was on learning how to round and estimate. The boys worked hard and seemed to understand the material."
"Today was very productive. We spent about 15 minutes doing homework and the rest of the time was a multiplication game with her brother. The student and her brother played two games where the goal was to get as many of the flashcards as they could. They also had sudden death rounds where I would place a card down and they would have to forfeit cards if they answered incorrectly, or add to their pile if they were correct. Another game we played was where they quizzed each other and if they answered the question incorrectly, they had to forfeit the card. Overall, she is getting better at her multiplication facts."
"The student and I worked on double digit multiplication, particularly the Algorithm Method. We then practiced strategies for word problems. He did really well during today's session."
"We reviewed 2D shapes and talked about angles. We went on a shape walk. We looked at a calendar and answered questions using vocabulary such as tomorrow and yesterday. We used the calendar to talk about ordinal numbers, first, second, etc. We learned about seconds and minutes. We also reviewed our relative positional words, such as above, right, below, inside, etc., as they are kindergarten geometry standards. We continued to review counting backwards and forwards by 1s, 5s, and 10s, which he is improving at."
"We worked on multiplying fractions. The order in which the steps needed to be done confused the student a little bit. He was very excited to do this; it was his idea. I showed him a lot of different ways and gave him extra challenging questions, so when he encounters it in school, it will seem easy to him compared to what we've done."
"The student and I began by working on a review of his Math homework. He was converting inches to feet and feet to yards. We then moved on to work on a review of his book report project on Anne Frank."
