"Today we finished going over the Mean Value Theorem and Rolle's Theorem related problems. The student improved significantly in methods of solving the problems. We then introduced concepts relating first and second derivatives in order to sketch graphs. The first derivative would give critical points and the second derivative gave inflection points (point in which concavity changes). The student was overall pretty good at understanding first derivative related concepts. He did not have much trouble going through second derivative related concepts either. His way of understanding methods of differentiating is continuously improving and has significantly improved since the first few weeks I tutored him. There were no concerns for this session."
"Covered the topic of related rates. Test is the 30th. Demonstrated the basics of modelling word problems and discussed more about the reasoning process. Completed assignment."
"We started off working on implicit differentiation. We went through some practice problems from the textbook of increasing difficulty. After about 30 minutes we moved on to derivatives of logarithmic functions. We worked on problems involving natural logs as well as logs of other numbers. For the last 30 minutes we worked on problems from the student's extra credit. We covered equations of tangent lines, sketching graphs of derivatives, and position problems."
"This session we worked more with optimization and started into some curve sketching. I helped stress the intuitive geometric ideas behind some of the concepts that come into play here, and I think we made progress. The student's algebra continues to improve every day."
"We did exam review covering derivative rules, logarithmic and exponential derivatives, and L'Hopital's rule. In this case it was the pre-test that was given as an assignment by the professor. The student is doing well grasping the concepts, but still needs to work on his algebraic skills."
"The student and I primarily discussed applying derivatives to describe the behavior of functions. This included the 1st/2nd derivative test, concavity, and continuity."
