"In this session, the student and I started on a textbook she recently bought for her geometry catch-up. The first 3 chapters were very easy for her, and we spent more time on chapter 4, which introduced geometric functions such and sin, cos, tan, etc., and the application of those functions."
"Last night, the student and I studied for her geometry final, which was this morning. We worked through six and a half pages of a nine-page study guide, and she showed excellent retention of concepts and formulas. She only needed a few reminders along the way. As long as she can stay focused during the exam, she should do well."
"Met to review for the student's upcoming test. Topics covered included using the triangle inequality theorem to determine whether a triangle can exist with sides of given length and calculating minimum and maximum size for a side of a triangle given the length of two other sides. Also covered triangle midpoint theorem and midsegment theorem to determine sides and angles in a triangle formed by the midsegments of a larger triangle. Also used the properties of a triangle altitude to calculate angles in a triangle."
"My special session with the student covered a whirlwind of geometry. Often I wouldn't even have a problem written on my whiteboard before she'd already solved it. There was some discussion about diagonals for a rectangle vs. rhombus vs. square, and lots of reiteration of the idea that "every square is a rectangle/rhombus/parallelogram, but not every rectangle/rhombus/parallelogram is a square." We used the distance formula a fair amount to check side lengths for figures given by a set of ordered pairs, then used that knowledge to define that figure's classification. I told her mother afterwards that her normal tutor is very lucky to be able to work with her."
"Now that I know precisely what the student is working on and what is expected of her in this course, I will prepare some helpful materials for her, namely on the topic of proofs. I will summarize all definitions, axioms, and theorems from which her proofs will have to be based. Once we have our foundations down, I will make sure I provide her with enough insight to succeed and make it through the class."
"On Saturday, we finished the student's math and geometry note cards, and I explained a lot of the new material from biology with pictures and diagrams. On Sunday, we completed the exam review packet she had received for geometry, and went over any other problems she didn't understand, to prepare her for the exam Monday."
