Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this first session, we determined what he needs to learn for his test. We then started from the beginning of the chapter. We did usubstitution and integration by parts. Also we planned out a schedule for the next couple of days."
"The student and I covered geometric theories to aid in problemsolving. In addition, we explored five tactics that give alternate, though slightly circuitous, methods of solving mathematical problems. She had a better grasp of exponents and we determined what major theorems she needed to memorize for the geometric problems. We finished up the material on exponential equations that we started in the first session, and reviewed more practice questions that centered on exponents and geometric diagrams. Lastly, the student and I decided that she was to copy a number of geometric and algebraic equations and mathematical relationships that she could memorize for the subsequent Friday. I also gave her a notable verbal assignment for the next session so that we could improve her verbal skills. "
"Quadratic equations, graphing, finding axis of symmetry, finding vertex, finding intercepts, completing the square, vertex form, standard form, factoring review, finding complex roots, and using the quadratic formula. Once he figured out what method to apply to each problem, he did fine."
"Did writing exercises in eyecatching opening sentences, thesis statement, and supporting reasons. Introduced lesson with writing icebreakers and conducted exercises in imagery and personification to help flush out the very rigid format. The student explained that she has always been a good writer."
"The student has a chemistry test tomorrow on gases. We went over the study guide and practice problems together. Some of the concepts were new so I introduced those, and we did supplemental problems from her other worksheets. She is being tested on Boyle, Charles, Ideal Gas, Combined Gas, and Gas Stoichiometry as well as other key topics related to gas laws."
"The student worked on an oral math drill. She worked on tripledigit subtraction. She was introduced to geometric lines, angles, segments, and points and how to name them. In reading, she worked on multiplemeaning words and homophones. She is doing a lot better on tripledigit subtraction. She still needs a little work to make sure she completely understands how and when to borrow. She does well on multiplemeaning words and homophones."
"The student is taking a class where a lot of the material is covered in a short amount of time and he needed someone to slow it down and explain things thoroughly. We reviewed linear programming and talked about the material on integer and goal programming, which he will need to do the problem set next week. We covered mostly theory today, but next time we'll go over how to solve linear programming problems using Excel."
"Topics Covered: solving systems of equations, review of parabolas, finding vertices, lines of symmetry, x and yintercepts
Progress Achieved: the student is now much more comfortable with constructing parabolas and solving for unknowns given a system of equations."

"Today's session focused primarily on acceleration due to gravity. The lab exercise related experimentally determined projectile ranges to theoretical values. Furthermore the exercise sought to determine the launch angle that would yield the longest range for a projectile."
"The student and I continued to review imaginary numbers. We completed worksheets provided by her teacher. She went through the majority of them with no trouble and I confirmed the answers were correct. She seems to have a good grasp on the material and should do fine on her test."
"The student is focusing on calculusbased physics. The student's homework is complex. I am encouraging the student to clarify homework questions with her instructor by email. The student and I will complete the homework assignments independently and compare answers when we meet."
"The student and I met for some extensive and intensive vocabulary exercises. We played vocabulary games and definition games, some were timed, some were openended. Then we went to a website for reading comprehension, having the student choose a section. He chose a nonfiction and a fiction selection, and we read each passage out loud and the student practiced making inferences, deciphering the main idea, and the sum of each narrative. More preparation will happen in another session this Sunday with the student. His exam for Reading Comprehension takes place on Monday night, so for the next session we will be doing even more preparation for the Reading Comprehension portion by going through the website and going through past questions."
