Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on reading strategies. The student first looked at all 4 passages and picked the one he was interested in the most. We read the passage together, completed specific paragraph/line, vocab, or main idea questions first, then moved on to the more difficult questions. We worked on highlighting topic sentences in each paragraph or writing a short summary of fiction passages. I timed him on 2 passages to improve his pacing and awareness of time."
"The student and I continued to discuss strategies for the English, reading, and science sections of the ACT and practiced timed passages in each section. He has a good grasp of science concepts but has some difficulty remembering grammar rules and completing reading comprehension passages within estimated time limits. We discussed strategies for selecting and answering items when under time pressures and reviewed grammar rules and strategies for revising/improving paragraphs."
"We concluded study for the student's ACT test on Saturday with review of grammar concepts from last session, revisiting "conflicting viewpoints" questions from the science section, and in context vocabulary questions from the reading section. All of these were areas we had identified as problematic earlier and student appears to have improved in each."
