"We covered Electric Charge and basic series and parallel circuit concepts and problems. Among those concepts were equivalent resistance (in parallel and series), current, and voltage. We also went over a few problems which calculated power. The student was able to complete an online homework assignment based on these concepts. She seemed to grasp these concepts well, and even took a few notes from my old engineering physics book from college. She also mentioned that she received a 94% on her last exam!"
"Today I met with the student to go over her physics class. She has been doing really well and just wanted a different perspective on solving Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy and Work problems, because she said that from her lecture and text, it wasn't clear when to use each equation. So I gave a short synopsis of the energy relationships and then we worked through six of her homework problems. By the third problem the student had caught on and was doing well. The student is doing really well in her physics class and clearly followed this section. It may be a long while before she might need tutoring. So, I told her just to have her mom contact me when she is ready. I am really glad that she is doing so well!"
"[COVERED]: We discussed wave interference. The student was having difficulty applying her understanding of destructive and constructive interference to problems in sound. Using pictures and animated GIFs, I endeavored to get the student to visualize how circularly-propagating waveforms correspond to the sinusoidal curves which we had used to represent waves propagating in one dimension. From there, we worked several of the example problems together. [PROGRESS/CHALLENGES]: The student had the most difficulty in two areas: 1- translating the relevant equations to English statements. 2- Applying that understanding to graphical representations and understanding how to use geometry to know what is possible to deduce. By modelling them, I hope that the student saw how to apply those themes. [EXTRA PRACTICE]: The student will continue to practice in preparation for her exam this week."
