Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on dilations today. The student seems to be doing better in regards to being able to solve problems without much assistance. Overall, great."
"Today, we looked over a review that the student had been given for an upcoming math test. She had already completed it, so I wrote a new question for each one we looked at. She was very comfortable with most of the material, but she needed help with writing equations to solve word problems. I helped her identify the specific words and phrases in word problems that indicated certain mathematical operations, then I wrote an extra set of word problems for her. She did much better with these. With the remaining time, I helped her prepare for a science test on energy resources using a chart she had from class."
"During this session, the student and I did more practice problems for his upcoming final exam. Between this session and the previous session, we reviewed almost all of the topics that will be covered on his final. I also left him with a few more practice problems, and left the answers with his mother."
"The student and I worked to review for her upcoming test. We focused specifically on partial fractions and logarithmic equations. She was able to develop a couple methods to help her remember the necessary steps for integrating these types of problems. We will meet next week as a last session before her test."
"This session, the student and I began by going over a quiz she recently took in class. She explained why she missed the points she did, and then I explained the concepts she had difficulty with. We then went over a few problems that I made up to illustrate solving for x by cross-multiplication. It seems as though she prefers to solve problems by mental math. I noted to her that writing out each step of the problem will eliminate mistakes, so this is what we worked on throughout the session. After she got comfortable with cross-multiplication, we went over cross-multiplication with fractions. At first, she had a little bit of trouble figuring the next step when she saw multiple fractions in the equation. Once she was prompted that the solution proceeds just like the problems without fractions, she continued on. We'll need to do some more practice on this sort of problem. Additionally, we discovered that she has not yet covered reciprocals in class, so we will continue to work on this."
"The student and I had a great session. Although he didn't have any particular homework to go over from his class we got to spend some time learning about some new topics from his ACT prep booklet. We talked about pattern recognition, numerical analysis, and geometry. Although these subjects were new to him at the start he picked them up very quickly, and was able to work through the problems with only a little guidance. He seems to really like learning, and we have a lot of fun during our sessions."
