Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Since the student had started school, we focused on school as a theme. We went over things in the classroom, and read a short story about Peter, a twelve-year-old, and his school. For next time, I plan to review vocabulary, and then talk about ways to get to school. At first, she was reluctant to talk, but once she held her hedgehog she seemed more comfortable. I think before we start on the review and new material next week, we'll warm up with something about hedgehogs."
"The student and I continued working with the grammatical workbook "Treff Punkt Sprachinstitut" today and reviewed Lektion. She worked on her homework assignment and used the vocabulary from the last lesson to build sentences in past, present and future tenses. For her homework, she is writing a small paragraph with her 8 words she learned today, using them all in some way in her writing. We had a great session again today. She is a lot of fun to work with."
"The student and I work through Chapter 10 in the book covering the four seasons, days, and the weather. We then moved to grammar exercises using pronouns and verb conjugations. We finished with sentence builder exercises to build small sentences with direct, indirect, and no articles. She is getting much better in her pronunciations, and she is working through exercises on her own. I suggested some German children's cartoons to watch. She is quite determined to learn German. Her progress is getting better."
"Today I had my session with the student. We continued with our story "Papageno." First I read the passages out loud in German for her to hear. Then, I had her read them out loud to me in German, and finally, translate all of the passages from German into English. I have noticed that her accent has improved significantly! Our next scheduled session will be next Thursday."
"Today we covered grammatical cases, personal pronouns, conjugation of verbs, transitive and intransitive verbs, method of analyzing sentences, necessity of learning articles in declensions, and pronunciation of German. I shared a link of an excellent online German grammar example, and we worked through homework for next lesson. I peppered the session with humorous simple phrases from real life experiences in the language."
"Today we covered the second part of "learning about school." I reviewed parts of the body, as the student requested we review them."
