Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was excellent today. We raced through multiplication problems (he knew most of the answers), and then continued on to his spelling words (which he also knew)."
"Today the student organized and wrote two essays, one on Mt. Rushmore and the other on dining at a restaurant. We also drilled multiplication and division."
"We worked on the state assessment exam reading comprehension, vocabulary reviews, two-digit multiplication, division, subtraction with decimals, and estimation."
"The student and I started by discussing his mother's desire for us to double our sessions per week. He explained that he wanted to be able to do the work on his own and didn't feel it was necessary to increase the amount, which I found reasonable. We then worked on a broad range of subjects-- math, science, history, English, and Spanish, and he was able to explain his thinking on most of them, although math required the most practice. As always, he was well-prepared, and we were able to complete nearly all of his assignments within our 90 minutes together. We also discussed annotation techniques that will allow him to do well in class."
"The student began his day by taking a chapter 1 standardized math assessment from a current 7th grade math book. He scored a 7 out of 13 points. His main knowledge gap is with using negative values in computations. So we will work further to lock in mastery of this concept. Following math, we completed the science chapter on Electromagnetic spectrum. The student is full of very good, related questions that, in our home school environment, we can stop and pursue immediately. This is helping to enrich his education immensely and provide the intellectual stimulation that he is so ready for."
"The student completed her math homework. We discussed techniques to improve accuracy. Then we practiced multiplication with flashcards. I had her walk around her room for a few minutes while she practiced with the cards as a technique to deal with fidgeting. We also organized her work space."
