Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered reading comprehension this session. We went over an extensive review of the fundamental techniques that isolate the main comprehension questions that will be on the SSAT. I gave her the usual study guide as homework."
"The student completed 4/6 homework practice problems correctly; we learned how to handle algebra word problems and homework was assigned to practice. He struggled with a synonyms pre-test, so I assigned 15 stems/roots for homework. We will take a post-test during the next session. He did very well with the analogies section. He correctly answered 8/10 practice problems."
"The student and I focused on the math section of the SSAT. We went through several practice tests to gauge his strengths and weaknesses. He has an incredibly strong number sense and is quick at mental math. Areas we will address include: (1) setting up a problem and figuring out how to solve it. This was especially true when dealing with variables. However, he is a quick learner. I think exposure and practice with different types of problems will remedy this quickly. (2) Problems that included fractions, decimals, and percents, or the conversion between two of them. I think this will simply require a review of the rules for these types of problems. Tomorrow we will begin to work through his practice book in order to comprehensively cover the test material."
