"Today we covered Period 3, 1754-1800, and the student was able to address some overarching questions. She stated that she found the list of questions on Period 2 helpful, so I will be sending similar ones regarding Period 3."
"The student had come from a study session with his AP teacher, in which she had reviewed the colonial settlement, so we went over the individual ID terms that I sent him last week for that portion (initial colonial settlement), and defined each of them. We then put the terms together in a summary paragraph. This is a model that I would like for him to use to study for the test. We discussed the strategy for the next 3 sessions (there are 3.5 weeks until the AP test). For next week, he will try to do as many of the ID terms as he can (who, what, when, where, and why it is important). At our meeting next week, we will do the paragraph summaries together, and I will help him with the terms that he doesn't know, and the context of the larger period."
"Today was our first meeting. We established what she feels comfortable with and not comfortable with when she will be approaching the AP exam. She informed me she feels strong with her content knowledge and her short answer responses and that the document based questions and long essays are what seem tricky. We went through 11 practice multiple choice questions together so that I could understand how she arrives at her answers and she does a wonderful job of critically reading the question itself and going through each individual response to determine the correct answer. She answered 10 out of 11 of the questions right and has demonstrated she knows her information and content and how to apply it. The main focus of our meetings moving forward will be taking her already well developed skills and applying them to the time limit so that she can confidently see that she does in fact know what she is doing, she just needs to manage each question and time appropriately. We will also work more on DBQ questions and Essay responses. She has agreed to work on some in the mean time to apply some of the preparatory strategies I have shared with her. I am overwhelmingly confident that by the time her exam in May comes around she will do well with the exam as she knows her information and she knows how to apply and analyze it appropriately."
