"This session focused on u substitution and calculating area integrals. We started with u substitution. We reviewed the steps for doing so: 1) choose a u 2) take the derivative of your u equation it to find du/dx and solve for dx 3) substitute in dx into your integral and hopefully cancel some things out 4) substitute u into your integral and hopefully solve the integral. (If you can't solve the integral at this point, then you have chosen the wrong u and you should try again. 5) reverse substitute and state your answer. We did several practice problems right out of the gate to solidify this material from the last class. Then we moved on to new material: finding the area under a curve, or between two curves. We reviewed that the integral of a function from a to b represents the area under that integral from a to b. We then also reviewed the idea that if you have two functions between which you want to find the enclosed area, then you have to find which function lies above the other, and then subtract the smaller function from the larger one. We worked on practice problems until the end of our session."
"During this session with the student, we reviewed how to set up and solve for the volume of an area rotated about an x or y axis or line using washer or disk method. The student seemed to have a good understanding of how to successfully solve the problems by the end of the session. As always, he is a great student to work with!"

"The student and I reviewed practice AP free response problems. We reviewed solving integrals on the calculator, finding average value (using the formula), and finding average slope between two points. We practiced implicit differentiation, finding both horizontal (numerator = 0) and vertical (denominator = 0) tangent lines. Lastly, we practiced finding relative and absolute maxima and minima."
