Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we went over more practice problems in math (applying slope, midpoint, distance, data analysis). Student knows how to do these problems and she understands the concepts she struggles with (remembering to use certain formulas). She also could do the problems more quickly. We also practiced with several critical reading passages. She is good at grasping the main idea and tone of the passage. She just needs to be quicker about answering detail questions and reading the passage."
"We went through the online practice SAT math section. We talked a lot about using the information that they give you and logically trying to figure out where to go from there. She tends to see a problem and think "I don't know how to do that" so we talked about ways she can turn it into a problem she does know how to solve. She just needs a bit more confidence in that regard because she does do it pretty well."
"The session went very well, we went through some passage based reading questions. He was able to pick the correct answer in almost every situation, and vocabulary seemed to be the main issue, which is what we will work on next time. I left him with an assignment to complete one SAT test without the essay by tomorrow or the end of this week."
"We covered written grammar and a math section of a practice test. We discussed methods to determine if the grammar of a sentence is correct when one isn't sure, and strategies for attacking math problems when one doesn't know the math. I gave tips on simplifying math and cleaning up algebra to avoid errors. The student has the following homework for next session: finish a math section and an essay."
"We cracked down on math today and discussed the topics that he was struggling with most, which seemed to be advanced algebra, i.e. functions, linear equations, inequalities, etc. I assigned two practice tests from his review book as well as reading from an SAT prep book (Math review section) to be completed by our next study session. He is a great student and I can see he is dedicated to improving his score and studying well for the test."
"We created a profile on an online resource and started with the four diagnostic math quizzes. Will has a very strong understanding of math but makes a few silly computational errors. He is improving at seeing the quicker way to compute and solve problems. I left him an assignment to complete the math practice problems in order to increase his overall strength."
