Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued to focus on the SAT essay. She had taken a practice test over the weekend, and she scored much better. She still wanted to work on the development of her examples, so we first went over the practice essay she had written for the test and then had her write another. The essay she wrote during the session dropped off at the end, but she knew exactly how to fix it. I left her with a practice prompt."
"We went over the SAT Subject Test for Math level 2 practice test today. We reviewed the questions that the student wanted some help on from the practice test and then reviewed some key concepts that she wanted to work on."
"The student and I talked about the ACT as a test overall, and then started in on some English mechanics and critical reading problems. We also talked over the essay which he finished during our session."
"We covered various questions that the student got wrong on the Chemistry assessment exam he took in June. His weakest topics were ionic and covalent bonding and the distinction between compounds, elements, and mixtures. We discussed these topics in depth, and he now has a firm grasp on them. We also covered neutralization reactions (and the accompanying calculations), trends in the periodic table, and calculating the atomic mass of an element using the weighted averages of the element's isotopes. The student was receptive to all of the material covered, and I am confident that he will be able to pass the exam."
"We covered writing and math problems today which did not involve the use of a calculator. In addition, we reviewed the use of trigonometric functions and the unit circle to solve problems which involved the sine and cosine functions. Homework regarding the writing section was then also assigned in order to cement the grammar rules which were reviewed during the lesson."
"We covered writing and vocabulary today. The student didn't struggle with anything. In fact, he didn't miss a single vocabulary word. He continues to be a model student. We went over basic test-taking strategies, the importance of attention to detail, and manipulating multiple-choice answers. I asked him to take a practice SAT at some point in the near future to gauge where he's improved and where he could continue to improve. He's doing very well. At this point, it's all about practice."
