Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has an exam tomorrow. We went over various topics such as hyperbolas, ellipses, and parabolas. Also he originally needed clarification for complex numbers, however we completely reviewed that as our final topic."
"We reviewed his study guide covering material such as finding zeros, listing of all possible rational roots, and synthetic division."
"During this session we focused primarily on reviewing conic sections, and how to create graphs when presented with a polynomial equation. The student is doing really well with identifying and graphing hyperbola and ellipses, but had some questions about solving and graphing parabolas. I gave him some practice problems to work on before our next session, which should prepare him for his exam on Thursday."
"We completed a homework assignment on plotting the sine and cosine curves after filling out a table based on the unit circle. We worked ahead in the book and discussed transformations (stretching vertically and horizontally, vertical shifts, and horizontal/ phase shifts) of sinusoidal functions. In addition, we discussed sinusoid amplitude and period and explored how any sinusoid written as a cosine has an equivalent sine function with a phase shift of a quarter period."
"The student started a new chapter today. She just finished up probability and took a test, so there wasn't very much to work on. The new chapter was on logarithms. She was given a "pre-test" worksheet to complete or at least give her best effort. We took it slow and I tried to teach the material from my own viewpoint."
"We discussed the different types of graphs of trig functions and how to plot or sketch them out. She mostly worked on her HW which stressed asymptotes of common trig functions and their locations. A great deal focused on stressing those common unit circle angles and their corresponding x and y values or ratios."
