Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student needed help with index laws. We talked about how each part of a complex index - negative signs, fractions, and fractional bases - contribute different information that can be evaluated one at a time and in any order."
"The student needed help with various techniques in algebra including factoring and simplifying complex algebraic expressions. I taught her generally applicable techniques for factoring, enabling her to master factoring of complicated algebraic expressions."
"The student needed to study for a test that would cover graphing rational functions - which requires understanding what causes a horizontal asymptote and vertical asymptote. We worked on her homework together and referenced the textbook when necessary for answering our questions. Her confusion with the homework was mostly due to her just needing to become more comfortable with the terminology and processes - she understood the concepts, she just needed to practice completing them correctly. We practiced using her graphing calculator to check the answers, and which functions on the calculator will help her find the solutions. She was able to complete all of the homework by the end of the session, and she was answering most of the questions on her own without my assistance. Our next tutoring session is scheduled on Monday for one hour."
"The student needs to work on the basics - such as place value and addition and subtraction of decimals. She is having a test on PEMDAS tomorrow and after our session she said she feels a lot more confident. We reviewed her past assignments and some worksheets I brought with me. She really "got it" quickly and seemed happy about that. We discussed place value and putting the decimal point in right away. She did much better after that."
"The student performed all assigned homework problems in this session. He shows excellent understanding of the concept of imaginary numbers. Additional homework review showed that he has outstanding aptitude for factoring polynomials, and indeed, math in general."
"The student prepared for chapter test by solving practice problems, reviewing worksheets, and studying concept check problems. We discussed attention to details to avoid careless errors. She focused on problems involving subtraction with integers and identifying various mathematical properties. She will study on her own more before her exam tomorrow."
