"The student is learning about graphs of functions, point-slope formula, and Domain and Range. The student was struggling most with the concept of Domain and Range, so I showed her several examples of Domain and Range, as well as how to pre-determine the behavior of functions by looking at the degree of the leading term. Cubed (or odd) functions will likely have an infinite range, squared (or even) functions will have a limited range, etc. The student seems to have a much stronger grasp on this concept now after our session."
"The student is now in the pre-Calculus course. His homework consists of on-line complicated problems with many steps. Tonight we worked on problems involving the distance formula, right triangles, circles, and similar triangles. He did quite well as we worked together to figure out the problems."
"The student is now working on solving polynomials using the multiplicative principle. This requires factoring of quadratics and other polynomials. His factoring of quadratics is very strong at this point; however, I needed to instruct him on how to factor by grouping. I worry that he may not fully grasp factor by grouping, so I will go over it more next time. We're slightly ahead of his class so he feels more confident on the material when they learn it and practice in the class."
"The student is progressing very well in doing math problems. He highlights important facts in the word problem and using them to solve multi-step problems. We worked through about 6 multi-step word problems. He answered questions I posed as to why he chose that specific operation and what it represented. He seems to understand logical thinking quite well. I also showed him two different methods for solving a problem by using a number line and using his notes. Great job!"
"The student is really smart. We worked on test corrections. He got 65%. The session went great, and we were able to fix a lot of his misconceptions. I was really happy when at some point of the lesson he said "Wow... I probably learned with you in the last hour more than I have learned with my Calculus teacher in a month.""
"The student is really trying to stay ahead of his class. He is trying to develop a deep understanding of the materials covered in class. He wants to not only know how to do the problems, but he also wants to master the subject."
