Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is so fun to work with. She is showing great signs of improvement! Today we worked on place values. We worked on determining what place value was important to look at when estimating. She worked on a homework sheet that incorporated addition and subtraction along with estimating the totals. She did a good job with her hundreds and thousands values, but when we got to decimals she struggled a bit. We will continue to work on this topic next week! Next we worked on inequalities. The student was able to place different numbers in order from greatest to least and vice versa. The main lesson in this activity was to identify which place value needed to be looked at to determine which number came next in the sequence. She did a great job this session. I left a couple of assignments for her to work on throughout the week to work on her place values. Next session we will look over those assignments, and then will also review those multiplication facts! Great job!"
"The student is still struggling with fractions so we practiced adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. She also lacks confidence in solving word problems so we created a chart for the four operations and filled in with key words to look for to choose an operation in solving these problems."
"The student is taking Elements of Geometry this year. He is learning about collinear points, segment addition postulate and angle addition postulate. He is also learning about points, lines and planes which he needed some help with. We focused on these as I gave him problems and he understood these better. He took a review of algebra quiz and got a 23 out of 35. He is learning about one and two step equations. He is also learning about and will have a quiz today on slope-intercept form, functions, and relations. I gave him problems and he handled them well. "
"The student is taking Pre-Algebra this year (he will obtain a copy of the course syllabus and the teacher's email address to give to me at our next tutoring session). I reviewed his notebook, he had well-organized notes on many topics (perfect squares, rules of decimals, constant/variable quantities, variable/numerical expressions, grouping, real number properties and like terms. At his request, we reviewed like term concepts, he then worked to complete his like term worksheet (homework). "
"The student is tracked out so it was the perfect time to revisit materials he struggled with before I became his tutor. We worked on Quadratics. He now understands how to convert from standard form to vertex form (vise versa), identify the vertex, domain and range, and is confident in knowing the transformation of the parabola (wide/narrow, up/down, left/right)."
"The student is very good with material, he just makes silly mistakes. He was a little weaker on piecewise functions, so we worked on them. Talked more about the properties of limits, continuous functions, etc."
